A gunman opened fire makes five people dead in Russia church

News24xx.com -  A gunman opened fire with a hunting rifle to a church in the Russian Dagestan region and killed five people and wounded four others. The man was eventually shot and killed by police.


The shooting was occurred on Sunday night, February 18 2018 in Kizlyar, a town of about 50,000 people on the border with Chechnya.


Four people were killed at the scene and the fifth died at a hospital, said regional Interior Ministry spokesman Ruslan Gadzhiibragimov.


The gunman was a local resident, and his wife had been interrogated.


The motive for the attack was not immediately known.


Dagestan is a predominantly Muslim region between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea.

After two separatist wars in neighboring Chechnya, an Islamic rebellion spread to Dagestan.
