News24xx.com -  A Russian businessman named Nikolai Glushkov has mysteriously died in London. Glushkov was associated with a prominent critic of the Kremlin.

London's Metropolitan Police on Tuesday, March 13 2018 considered the death of Glushkov as "unexplained,". There was no evidence to suggest a link to the March 4 poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

Attorney Andrei Borovkov told the Russian media that his client Nikolai Glushkov died, but said he did not know about the time and circumstances.

Glushkov was an associate of Boris Berezovsky, a Russian oligarch and Kremlin critic who died in London in 2013. The investigation could not determine whether he had killed himself or died as a result of a crime. Glushkov,  who was in his late 60s, was found dead at his home in southwest London.

The police investigated the "unexplained" death of a man found in a house in the New Malden area last Monday, but did not release the name, saying the identification had yet taken place.

Glushkov had worked at various Berezovsky enterprises, including the AvtoVAZ, a car factory and the flagship Russian airline Aeroflot.

He was arrested in 1999 and prosecuted for embezzling $ 7 million from Aeroflot. In 2004, he was sentenced to three years and three months in prison, but released because of the time allotted before and during the trial.

Russian media reported that Glushkov was granted political asylum in the UK in 2010.
