Indonesian Consumers Protection Foundation demands standardized safety for online taxi

News24xx.com -  Indonesian Consumers Protection Foundation (YLKI) demands standardized customers security and safety of online taxies, because it deems that the security acpect is not good enough.

YLKI’s chairman of board, Tulus Abadi gave example of the murder of Yun Sisca Rokhani by an online taxi driver, in a discussion titled “Implementasi PM Nomor 108 Tahun 2017” (The Implementation of Ministry of Transport Regulation Number 108 Year 2017). 

He said that what happened to Yun Sisca is one of the examples of the poor customers safety and security of online taxi.

Before Yun Sisca, there were already many cases of violent attack, mugging, and raping toward customers.


“Toward such incidents, it has to be strongly warned that it is proof that managerially, online taxi does not have standardized security and safety system for its customers. For example, there is no ‘call center’ phone access to handle complaints,” he said.


Furthermore, he said that such incidents proved that online taxi companies do not have clear standard in recruiting their drivers. 

“This also becomes real prove that it was just myth, what they said about online taxi being safer than ordinary taxi,” he said.


For that reason, Tulus insisted that the Ministry of Transport and the police to implement the regulation number 108 year 2017 assertively and consistently, even strengthening the regulation if possible. 


“That Ministry of Transport regulation is still too loose. New regulation needs to be made, one that is in line with the mission of Constitution number 8 year 1999 about Consumer Protection, which is customers’ right of security and safety when using online taxi,” he said.


He told all the customers, especially females, to be careful when using online taxi. Do not go alone if possible, and do not order a taxi late at night or early in the morning. He said it was better to use ordinary taxi with good reputation.


“It is better not to stop in front of your house. Do not let the online driver knows your house or even your workplace. This is to prevent improper actions from the drivers toward the customers,” he said.
