Barcelona without La Masia alumni after 16 Years

News24xx.com - There is an unusual in the starting XI Barcelona when facing Celta Vigo. For the first time in 16 years, alumni of La Masia absent in the starting XI of Barca competitive match.

Barca came home from Celta headquarters in the 33rd match of La Liga on Wednesday, April 18th 2018 early morning local time, with the result of 2-2.

In this match, Barca started the game with Marc-Andre TerStegen, Nelson Semedo, Yerry Mina, Thomas Vermaelen, Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Paulinho, Denis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Paco Alcacer, and Philippe Coutinho.

 

According to US Catalan media, it is a team without any Barca academy players (La Masia). Not only that, the starting XI also does not include a single player from the Catalan and only two Spanish players (Denis and Alcacer).

Meanwhile, Catalunya radio reported that this is the first time in the last 16 years Barca start a competitive game without a single alumni La Masia.

The last time this sort of thing happened was on April 6th 2002, when Barca faced Athletic Bilbao at San Mames. At that time Barca, under the direction of Carles Rexach, won 2-0.

Starting line-up on that day was, (Roberto) Bonano, (Michael) Reiziger, (Philippe) Christanval, Abelardo, (Francesco) Coco; (Phillip) Cocu, (Fabio) Rochemback, Luis Enrique, Rivaldo, (Marc) Overmars, and (Javier) Saviola.
