News24xx.com -  In order to decrease the plastic pollution at the ocean, Great Britain will ban plastics that are only used once. These type of plastic include plastic straws, cotton buds and drink stirrers that you can usually found in restaurants or cafes.

The plan to ban them was announced during the meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government in London, on Thursday, April 19th 2018 as a response to the increasing plastic consumption.

Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May said that in Great Britain alone, there were 23 million plastic straws used and discarded every day. Furthermore, the government report regarding the future of the ocean shows that 70 percent of the trashes found in the ocean are plastics.

“Plastic waste is one of the environmental challenges for the earth. For that reason, protecting oceanic environment is important in our agenda in the meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government,” she said.

Before this, Britain has made a policy regarding plastic bags and banned the use of microbeads in any product.

In the future, it is possible that plastic straws and cotton buds will disappear from Britain. The policy is even supported by the civilians.
