Doctors have found a way to treat prostate cancer with bacteria

News24xx.com - Surgeons reported a new and effective method of treating prostate cancer at an early stage.

It involves the removal of the tumor with a laser, as well as a special drug based on deep-sea bacteria.

The method was tested on 413 men, almost half of them completely disappeared traces of cancer. Conclusions of scientists are published in the journal "Lancet Oncology".

However, a new type of treatment doesn’t cause side effects. Traditional methods, such as surgery and radiation therapy, often lead to impotence and incontinence.

Therefore, men diagnosed with cancer at an early stage often prefer to postpone treatment and see if the tumor will develop aggressively.

The doctors are sure that the new methodology can completely change this situation.

As part of the new method of treatment, a drug is used that is made from bacteria that live on the seabed in total darkness.

The laser is directed to the tumor, and when light hits it, the bacteria activate and kill the cancer cells, leaving the prostate itself healthy.

This type of treatment is only applicable in the early stages of the disease. Now it is being tested in Europe.

Annually in the UK, approximately 46,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. About 11 thousand men die from it.
