Avozilla, world's biggest avocado

News24xx.com - Usually avocado fruit only has the size of our fist, but different from avozilla. The size of this avocado is almost as big as a human head. This jumbo avocado that goes on sale in the Australian market under the name avozilla is in great demand among buyers.

This large avocado is always sold out when first marketed about two weeks ago. The average weight of an avozilla is about 1.2 kilograms (kg) or the equivalent of four to six regular avocados. Avozilla can be served for 20 servings.

"The biggest I ever weighed was 1.73 kg" said tropical and exotic fruit manager at Mercer Mooney, Cameron Perna, quoted from 7 News. Mercer Mooney is the only Avozilla distributor for Perth, Western Australia.

The flavor of this avozilla fruit is actually not much different from most avocado. The delicate avozilla fruit flesh is similar to the usual avocado. This avozilla actually comes from a company in South Africa that distributes seeds to farmers in Australia.

An avozilla farmer, Ian Groves, said the avozilla was the first crop since it was cultivated 10 years ago. Groves tells this avozilla comes from a test tree."When there was a nursery, we bought many seeds and planted many avocados 10 years ago and they (the South African company) gave us one tree as an experiment" Groves told the Guardian.

Reported from Metro, the South African company has a copyright to this avozilla fruit. Anyone who wants to grow this fruit should get permission and pay royalties to the company.

The price per kg of this avozilla reached USD 14.99 or about IDR 215 thousand. For comparison, in Indonesia, one kilo of avocado is around IDR 50 thousand.
