News24xx.com - The death toll as a result of heavy snowfall in Austria and Germany has increased to nine people, reports "MIR 24". Tourists and residents of mountainous regions became victims of the elements.

Don’t go train, don’t fly airplanes. Collapse on the roads, some of them had to be blocked. Drifts in Bavaria rose to a meter. It sweeps for the fifth day. And on the eve of the authorities declared a state of emergency in the region. Urban residents are warned about trees falling under the weight of snow, and in the mountains of high avalanche danger.

“After the snowfall, we had to block some roads: emergency services don’t always cope with clearing them. School classes have also been canceled so that the children are safe”, - said Sofie-Marie Stadler, a representative of the Miesbach district administration.

The Austrian authorities are afraid of a repeat of the tragedy of February 1999, when the strongest avalanche covered a whole commune in the mountain village of Galtur. Then 31 people died. Now, when huge snow masses accumulated over the whole ski resort of Hochkar, all its guests and employees were evacuated.

Forecasters predict that the snowfall will continue throughout the week.
