News24xx.com - Kim Sen-yeol, an 81-year-old woman who lives alone in a small island in the middle of the Sea of Japan gets caught in a territorial dispute between Japan and South Korea.

Kim Sen-yeol and her husband, Kim Sung-do moved to Dokdo Islands in 1991. Her husband’s fishing partner had moved there before them in 1965, becoming the island’s first official resident. But both men had passed away, leaving Kim as the only resident of the small island.

But Kim seems to enjoy her life alone on the island. She spends her time swimming, fishing or exercising. Her family says she has no intention to move.

“She said living on Dokdo is relaxing,” said Kim Kyung-chul, her son-in-law, as cited from Fox News.

Dokdo, or known as Takeshima Islands in Japan, is located between Japan and Korea. According to South Korea, Dokdo was acknowledged as part of Korean territory in 1696, following a fight between Japanese and Korean fishermen. But in 1905, Japan annexed the islands until 1945. South Korea claims that Dokdo belongs to them again after the end of World War II, but Japan disagrees.

As the fight between the two countries over the islands continues, the only resident of the islands, Kim, lives a peaceful life. The island seems to only fit one residence. There is a rumor that says that Kim’s daughter and son-in-law may move to the island in April to open a souvenir shop. But Dokdo Management Office said that if it happens, there will be too many residents there.
